Podcasts!

While there’s plenty of noise in the podcast universe, there are countless sources worthy of soundtracking meal prep in the kitchen, cleaning the house, drives to the store, flights to places near and far. Here are some of my faves.

  1. You Get a Podcast – two academics (brilliantly) analyse major moments and milestones of the Oprah Winfrey Show.
  2. Making – a series that dives into the making of icons, including Oprah, Beyonce, Barack Obama and more.
  3. Empire – a wonderfully informative show about empires over the course of history, with fantastic rapport between the hosts, history writer William Dalrymple and journalist Anita Anand.
  4. Intelligence Squared – lively debates and deep discussion on all sorts of topics with a range of guests from around the world.
  5. Where Should We Begin? – iconic psychologist Esther Perel allows us to listen in to counselling sessions with real people facing a range of issues in their relationships, families, work and more. Full of heart and insight.
  6. Good Bad Billionaire – a punchy show by the BBC looking at how the world’s richest made their fortunes, and then judge them as either good, bad, or “just another billionaire”.
  7. Tara Brach – weekly mindfulness meditations that combine western psychology and Buddhism.
  8. Pivot – journalist Kara Kwisher and professor/entrepreneur Scott Galloway pair up and take on current affairs.
  9. On with Kara Swisher – the same Kara Swisher as ‘Pivot’ hosts no-filter interviews with some of the most powerful people in tech, media, politics and more.
  10. Switched on Pop – super fun show by two musicologists, dissecting pop music and musical movements we all know and love (and sometimes hate)
  11. Questlove Supreme – drummer and producer Questlove and his crew host fascinating, very long form interviews with musical icons and tastemakers, going deep into their origin stories.
  12. The Sarah Silverman Podcast – a witty, funny and intelligent weekly podcast by one of my favourite comedians.
  13. In The Studio – another BBC podcast that looks at the creative process of writers, musicians, poets and more.
  14. Conversations with Tyler – polymath Tyler Cowan has incredibly diverse and deep discussions with brilliant minds from all parts of the intellectual, business, creative universes.
