Changi Airport: What to do at the World’s Best Airport in 3 hours

This special edition of Stopover at Singapore’s Changi Airport originally appeared on Nomads Bazaar. Stopover is a travel show I host and produce with my creative partner-in-crime, Adam Moorhead.

We usually choose a city to create our 6 and 12 hour Stopover episodes, but Changi Airport deserves its own special 3 hour stopover episode!

There is a reason why we explored the world’s number one airport for six years running. There’s plenty to see, eat, and do at Changi, whether it be its beautiful butterfly garden to its large selection of cafes and restaurants to it being one of only six airports globally with its own cinema! If you’re booking flights, be sure to add a stopover at Changi Airport!

While we also did 6 and 12 hour Stopover episodes outside Singapore’s airport, you may also want to consider the free Heritage and City Sights Tours which you can join from within the transit area.

TERMINAL 1

09:00 Paul
We started by picking up a cup of the best coffee at Changi. For more peckish travellers, they have a great selection of baguettes and sweet pastries!

09:30 Cactus Garden
One of several gardens you can explore throughout Changi Airport, there’s more to the Cactus Garden than just Cacti. You can grab a beer here too while letting your inner plane geek watch planes from all over the planet take off and land.

TERMINAL 2

10:00 Orchid Garden
The interiors of Changi have been carefully crafted, creating a sense of intimacy one doesn’t normally feel in massive airports. The orchid garden features more than 700 orchids, hand-selected to represent the 4 elements of nature: earth, water, fire and air.

10:20 Entertainment Deck
From retro arcade machines to PlayStations to a cinema, if you need more stimulation than the sights and sounds of Changi’s shops and gardens, check this space out for some playtime!

11:00 Sunflower Garden
Terminal 2’s outdoor equivalent is once again perfect for plane-spotting or a little stroll with fresh tropical air!

TERMINAL 3

11:45 Butterfly Garden
The world’s first airport Butterfly Garden is a lush tropical habitat with a 6-metre waterfall, home to 40 gorgeous species!

TERMINAL 4
(Accessible only to passengers with flights departing from T4 for now)

12:30 Peranakan Gallery
Did you know that the iconic Balmain-designed Singapore Airlines uniform, the Sarong Kebaya, is inspired by Peranakan culture? Do you even know what Peranakan means? Well head on over to this mini-museum to find out about this unique blend of Malay and Chinese culture.

If you’ve got any flights via South-East Asia, make Singapore a priority. There’s really no airport like it. And there’s no other city in the region that makes a layover so easy in terms of convenience, connectivity, cuisine and things to do.

We’d like to give Changi Airport a special thanks for giving us access to film our episode!
